Fox and Moon turning 30

So you may have seen on my Instagram and in my weekly email that it is my 30th this month.  I really want to celebrate in style and make the most of a new decade, so I have been thinking of designing my own 30 things for 30... but what!?

As soon as I posted this on my grid, loads of you shared your own 30 for 30 ideas with me and it seems like I’m not the only one who’s planning to mark this special birthday.

30 before 30

Here are four things that I did put my mind to and achieved before I hit my 30th birthday:

  • Driving test - made sure I got my wheels and I’m loving it!
  • Teeth straightened before my 30th - totally worth the braces!
  • More self-care routines - finally got started on some laser hair removal...
  • Skin care - gotta keep it peachy!

I realise that I’m a bit late to the party for the 30 FOR 30, but I’m totally keen to get involved with 30 amazing things in my 30s that mean I cherish life, try new things, do more of what I love and generally love each and every year of my thirties!

Do more of what makes you happy

Your ideas for your 30 before 30 (or 40 before 40 / 50 before 50!) were so varied…

  • Host a dinner party
  • Make a pizza from scratch
  • Start a pension
  • Save a certain amount of £
  • Watch 30 films (IMDb top 30?)
  • Re-read a favourite book
  • Watch the sunset
  • Watch the sunrise
  • Do a challenge for charity

I think it’s such a fun and positive thing to write down a personal list of the things you really would love to tick off by a certain point in time. No pressure. No judgement. No feeling of failure if you don’t get them done. Just enjoying each time you do something that you want, something that is just for you.

What would you include on your list? Would it feature travel, new meals, new experiences or other goals?

In the spirit of my 2019 goal in both work and personal life where I am focusing more on happiness and wellbeing, I think creating your own little motivating list is a brilliant way to boost your mood, challenge yourself and get you dreaming about the things you want to change and achieve in life.

5 tips you would tell younger self

Whilst we’re thinking about 30 before 30 and I’m in a reflective mood at this milestone birthday, I wanted to end on the three tips that I would tell my younger self. Along the years, we tend to forget about how much we’ve grown, learn and experienced - and when we stop to look back, it’s an awful lot!

So here are three little nuggets of wisdom that I’ve come to realise over the past 30 years, which I hope will keep me strong and happy in the future…

  1. Don’t always try to please other people because you just end up compromising yourself.

Definitely a massive lesson I’ve learned over the years!

  1.  “This too shall pass”.

This quote always sticks in my brain at tough times and I remember that nothing is bad forever, even if it sucks at the time!

  1. You only get one life

So go and do things that you want to do because you only get one chance. If you want nice shoes, buy them, there is no point in waiting - for what?

Rick Warren quote

Ask me again at 40 and I think it’s highly likely I will tell you completely different things, which I think is totally natural as we go through the stages of our life. 30 is a good excuse for all sorts of things. That’s what I keep telling myself. And right now I’m remembering to be incredibly grateful for what I have, my family, my job and the opportunity to do what I love.

Have you ever stopped to reflect on how far you’ve come? Whether that’s on your weight loss journey, in your career or family life… each time you put a foot in front of another it takes you further away from where you’ve come from and closer to where you want to be.

We don’t spend enough time being our own cheerleaders and I think it’s time we changed that. Remember how far you’ve come, even in those difficult moments, and be proud of yourself - you are doing the best you can!
